Twin Lakes considering deactivating Cemetery Board

The Twin Lakes Village Board is considering deactivating its Cemetery Board.

At Monday’s committee of the whole meeting, Trustee Kevin Fitzgerald, who is the Village Board’s representative to the Cemetery Board, proposed the action. The Cemetery Board, he said, doesn’t in practice have much to do, but still is required to meet twice a year.

The village owns Mound Prairie Cemetery.

The main purpose of creating the Cemetery Board was for the acquisition of land, Fitzgerald said. He doesn’t anticipate that being a need in the foreseeable future. If needed, it could be reactivated, he suggested.

Changing the Cemetery Board’s role was supported by Cemetery Board member Russ Say at the meeting.

“I see no reason to maintain the Cemetery Board,” Say said. Possibly, one person could keep an eye on the cemetery as needed, he added.

The board is expected to consider the matter for formal action at a future meeting.

The village took a somewhat similar action with the Park Board, reducing the number of times it was required to meet.
