Wilmot UHS to host Veterans Day Observance on Nov. 11

Veterans their family and friends are invited to attend Wilmot Union High School’s 17th annual Veterans Day Observance, on Monday, Nov. 11.

Activities will include breakfast, individual recognition, and an all-school assembly.

The event starts with breakfast and fellowship starting at 7:45 a.m. in the
Wilmot High School commons. The assembly will begin at 9 a.m. in Veterans Field House. Veterans will begin assembling for the ceremony very close to 8:50 a.m. Veterans are welcome to bring your family and if you know a current WUHS student who is a family member or neighbor/friend that you would like to have as an escort into the assembly, please let school officials know with your RSVP.

In order to ready for those planning to attend, please RSVP to Marlene Tilsner (262-862-2351 ext. 260 – or tilsnerm@wilmoths.k12.wi.us) as soon as possible and indicate how many will be attending for breakfast and/or the assembly.

School officials also are seeking veterans that might wish to stay and meet with students on a more personal level. Students have really enjoyed these tales the last few years. They would love to hear more stories. If there is enough interest, smaller discussion groups will be set up in the afternoon (perhaps between the hours of 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.). If veterans have pictures or items that they’d like to discuss or display, this would be the time as well. When you RSVP for the assembly, please leave a message about what your schedule and/or interest might be on this; someone will get back to you with
details. Please remember that as a school officials need to know in advance if there might be a safety concern with items veterans bring to share – alert the school when you RSVP. A lunch will be provided if you are interested.

Finally, while Wilmot normally shows a movie about military service during this time, with the date of Veterans Day being a Monday and with a very busy schedule in the auditorium, the school will not be
hosting this event this year.

Do not hesitate to let the school know if you need any assistance with any details.
