Shane Gerber resigns from Salem School Board; nominees for appointee sought

The Salem School District is seeking applicants for people interested in filling a vacancy on the School Board.

The vacancy on the board was created by the resignation of Shane Gerber.

Gerber resigned from the board in a brief notification addressed to board President Dana Powers that said the Oct. 22 meeting would be his last on the board, said Connie Valenza, the district’s interim administrator.

After serving nine years on the board, part of that time as board president, Gerber did not seek re-election in 2014. He then ran again and was elected to the board in 2015.

The following instructions from the district are for people interested in serving out the remainder of Gerber’s term:

Residents of the Salem School District interested in serving on the Salem School Board of Education from now until April 2020 in an appointed capacity should submit:

  • Contact Information, including address.
  • Letter of Interest, including reasons for wanting to serve.
  • Brief resume – include past or current public service, education, and other information you believe is relative to this public service opportunity.
