Fox River still rising; flood watch remains in effect

The Fox River continues to rise toward a noteworthy crest.

At 6 p.m., the river was measuring at 13.49 feet at the New Munster gauge. Flood stage is 11 feet. A flood warning remains in effect.

The river is expected to reach a crest of 13.9 feet Friday evening, says the current National Weather Service forecast.

The 6 p.m. reading of 13.49 feet would rank as the 7th highest crest on record. A crest of 13.9 feet would rank 5th.

The next chance of rain is Saturday, with a 30 to 80 percent chance of showers during the day and a 50 percent chance overnight, says the latest, local NWS forecast. Less than a total of .5 inch is expected.
