Twin Lakes agrees to locating new electrical equipment in Legion Park

The Twin Lakes Village Board recently agreed to allow Alliant Energy to locate a new switchgear in Legion Park.

The equipment will allow better switching between different types of electrical service in neighborhoods near the park, an Alliant representative explained at a Village Board meeting last week.

The equipment will have about a six foot by eight foot footprint. Alliant would like to locate the device away from the parking lot on the east side of the park, but board members favored it being closer to the parking lot. Alliant wanted it further away to protect the equipment from being struck by vehicles.

However, board members suggested ballards might be in order to protect the switchgear because the park has a snowmobile trail running through it in the winter and can be the site of other traffic some times.

“Lots of time, cars like to do doughnuts up there in Legion Park,” said village President Howard Skinner.

Alliant officials will work out the final location of the switchgear working with village public works employees.
