Aug. 7, 2019 lake test results: Rock Lake on caution, others open

Rock Lake remains under a swim caution after re-testing on Tuesday showed lower but still elevated levels of E.coli there.

Three other locations — DeWitt Park beach on Silver Lake, Lance Park on Lake Mary and Camp Lake — had swim cautions removed after retesting.

The State Department of Health recommends posting warnings at beaches when the test results indicate a E.coli level of 300/100mL or more and closing a beach when test results exceed E.coli 1000/100mL. Wheatland (Lilly Lake) has a policy of posting an advisory for a level of E.coli 235/100 mL or more and closing a beach when test results exceed E.coli 1000/100mL.

The Tuesday test at Rock Lake showed 980 E.coli/100 mL. It is expected to be resampled Wednesday. The lake was closed to swimming before the retest.

Results at the other lakes resampled Tuesday were:

  • PHLA: 32 E.coli/100 mL
  • Camp: 196 E.coli/100 mL
  • Lance: 96 E.coli/100 mL
