The largest food drive of the year that benefits The Sharing Center takes place this Saturday, May 11.
Area postal carriers have been distributing blue bags in mailboxes as part of the National Association of Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. This Saturday is the day to fill that bag and put it out at your mailbox to be picked up by your postal carrier.
After being picked up, the food will be brought to local food pantries and relief agencies, including The Sharing Center in Trevor.
“It’s the largest food drive of the year for us and the USA,” said Sharon Pomaville, The Sharing Center executive director.
The Sharing Center will have 90 volunteers on hand to take in the expected massive donations, Pomaville said.
What should you put in your blue bag? Some of the most needed items are:
- Peanut butter.
- Cereal.
- Canned tuna and chicken.
- Canned fruit in juice.
- Low sodium soup.
