A ceremonial groundbreaking was held at Wheatland Center School Wednesday to mark the beginning of work on the school’s upcoming renovation/construction project
Doing the honors at the ceremony were one student representative of each grade level kindergarten through eighth grade. The students were selected by grade level teachers as being good school community citizens, explained principal Drew Halbesma. The ceremony was moved to the cafeteria from outside, due to cold weather.
Actual work on the project, which will include renovation of existing space and the construction of two new classrooms, is expected to begin next week, Halbesma said.
The work was authorized in a referendum in April.
Scherrer Construction is the contractor for the project.
