UPDATE: Winter storm warning issued; heavier snow now expected

The National Weather Service has now issued a winter storm warning for Kenosha County.

The warning is in effect from 9 a.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday.

Snow accumulation projections have edged higher in this latest move. Between Sunday and Sunday night, the latest local NWS forecast for our area is now for 5 to 9 inches of snow.

We are among a select group of Wisconsin counties included in the watch area. In Wisconsin, only Kenosha, Racine, Walworth and Rock counties are included, while about the northern third of Illinois is also under a winter storm warning.

From the NWS: “a Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”
