Kathy Schick Personal Training leads yoga at Westosha Sports Complex to benefit The Sharing Center

A local personal trainer led yoga classes this week as a way to help those less fortunate in the community.

Kathy Schick of Kathy Schick Personal Training was looking for a way to do community service, as her yoga training has encouraged.

“One of the great things about yoga is they encourage you to do community service,” Schick said.

Schick hit upon the idea of offering free yoga instruction in exchange for donations of non-perishable food items for The Sharing Center in Trevor. She partnered with her neighbors, Dave and DeeDee Adamecz, to hold some of the yoga sessions at the Adamecz’ business, Westosha Sports Complex in Silver Lake.

The idea of helping people with food — especially at the holiday season — was a personal one for Schick. When she was a child and her parents divorced, benefactors at the small church they attended made a weekly donation of groceries to the family.

“To this day I don’t know who did that,” said Schick.

The sessions were held last Thursday, some at Westosha Sports Complex and some at Kathy Schick Personal Training also in Silver Lake. People who made a donation were able to attend a yoga session led by Schick. For each session, a drawing was held for a gift basket, filled with items donated by other area businesses, including: Sandlots of Salem, Antidote, Snap Fitness of Paddock Lake, Paws ‘n’ Claws, Hansen’s Ice Cream Parlor, Silver Lake Auto Service, Boutique tres chic, Ruth’s Hairlines and Nice and Neat Shop.
