Salem School students and staff were honored to host military veterans and service members on Monday afternoon. Several student groups and staff contributed to the day’s program.

Principal Eileen Hanson welcomed our guests. District administrator David Milz acknowledged veterans in attendance for their honorable service. Students Isabella Frederick and Austin Pohjola presented thank you cards that were created by Salem students.

Jamie Edwards, Salem’s choir director, introduced some 5th grade students who told of the history of The Star Spangled Banner. This was followed by Heidi Anderson leading the Salem 7th and 8th grade band in the playing of the national anthem.

Fourth grade students sang America (My Country ‘Tis of Thee) and the 7th and 8th grade choir sang We Honor You. The 5th grade students used American Sign Language to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Scouts retired the colors and the program concluded with a rendition of Taps. After the program, veterans and their families were invited to stay for coffee, punch, and snacks.
