Fox River level jumps up; now forecast for higher crest

The Fox River as measured at the New Munster gauge has reached its earlier forecast for crest but is now forecast to rise even higher.

Much of this week the river was forecast to crest at about 13 feet. That level was reached at 5 a.m. Sunday. At 11 a.m., the river was at 13.17 feet, a mark that would be good for the eighth highest crest measured there. Flood stage is 11 feet.

But the Fox isn’t done. The new National Weather Service crest forecast is now 14.1 feet, expected to be reached Tuesday morning. The current forecast calls for the river to still be about a foot over flood stage as of Saturday.

A flood warning remains in effect.
