Fox River continues to recede; flood warning remains

The Fox River continues to slowly recede as measured at the New Munster gauge.

The river slipped below 12 feet early Friday morning. At 3:15 a.m., it was at 11.99 feet. Flood stage is 11 feet. A National Weather Service flood warning remains in effect.

However, rain forecast for the area may reverse that trend. There’s an 80 percent chance of rain Friday morning and a 100 percent chance of rain Friday night followed by chances of rain ranging from 50 to 90 percent Saturday through Monday, says the latest, local NWS forecast.

The NWS forecast for the Fox River calls for the river to begin rising again very early on Saturday and crest at 13.4 feet Monday.
