Paddock Lake discusses making donation to The Sharing Center

Paddock Lake village officials appear to be on the cusp of making a donation to The Sharing Center this year from surplus funds and perhaps as a budgeted item next year.

The Sharing Center is a resource center and food pantry located in Trevor, serving Western Kenosha County.

The willingness to make a donation appears to be in reaction to a answer in the village survey earlier this year. In the survey, 64 percent of the respondents answered yes to the question: “Should the village board contribute a portion of unused/surplus budget dollars to local food pantries?”

“I know in the past there’s been some feeling about not doing that,” said village President Terry Burns at a committee of the whole meeting Tuesday. “The constituents have told us they want to donate to The Sharing Center.”

Village administrator Tim Popanda said some money could be left in an events fund that could be donated to The Sharing Center this year. If planned donations for the remaining event for the year come in, there might be about $500 available.

Sharon Pomaville, The Sharing Center executive director, said she made a request for $1,000 from the village. That amount, equal to .003 percent of the agency’s budget, was based on the number of village residents regularly using the agency’s services.

Trustee Kathy Christenson said she would like to see a donation become a regular part of the annual budget.

Burns endorsed that idea.

“It’s attainable,” Burns said. “It’s easily attainable.”
