A Bristol resident has erected a tribute in his yard to U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), who died last weekend.

McCain served in the U.S. Senate for 31 years and was a prisoner of war for five years after being shot down over Hanoi during the Vietnam War. He ran for president twice. He is being memorialized this week in Arizona and Washington DC and eventually headed for a private burial at the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland.

Explaining his motivation for creating the tribute, Rich Bosanko, a retired Kenosha Fire Department officer who lives in Bristol, said:

“I’ve always considered John McCain to be an American hero. His service to our country, both as a soldier and as a Senator truly represents the spirit of America. He took on and fought his cancer with the same fervor that he showed while being held¬† in captivity in Vietnam.¬† His courage, his code of ethics, his dedication to his country are values that all Americans can appreciate.”

This is not Bosanko’s first front yard memorial display. We also published photos of his 9-11 related displays in 2014 and 2017.
