The 2017 Fairest of the Fair court.
One of the major events of the first day of the fair is the coronation for the Fairest of the Fair.
The ceremony, which concludes the judging process, takes place Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 9 p.m. at the Show & Sale Arena.
The purpose of the Fairest of the Fair program is “to promote the enormous variety of opportunities available in Kenosha County, such as, educational, agricultural, social, and economic,” says the fair’s website. The Fairest and court have various duties during the fair such as handing out ribbons and performing other ceremonial duties. Keep an eye out for them. They are there every day. After the fair they continue to work promoting the fair at various community festivals and other events and competing in the Fairest of the Fairs state level in January.
In 2019, a new Fairest of the Fair will be crowned in March and they will have a reign from March to March. With that being said the 2018 Fairest of the Fair will not have their reign cut short, but the two will reign together throughout the summer helping to promote the fair as well as be at the 2019 fair. This change comes with the hope that the Fairest will get more time to prepare for the state competition as well as represent the fair they promote.
The finalists selected to Fair Royalty will be awarded various gifts. The Fairest of the Fair will be awarded a lifetime membership to the Kenosha County Fair and a $500 Scholarship.
