Identities released of woman and child who died in separate Twin Lakes water incidents

The identities of a woman and child who died as the result of unrelated incidents on the waters of Twin Lakes Sunday have been released by the Twin Lakes Police Department.

Theodore R. Johnson, 3, of Twin Lakes, later died after being pulled from Lake Elizabeth near Musial Road Beach.

Carol Varney, 54, of Racine later died after being pulled from the waters of Lance Park Beach on Lake Mary.

Regarding Theodore’s death, a TLPD news release distributed Monday said Theodore, his brother and parents were on the lake on a pontoon boat. The parents heard a “commotion” and noticed one of their children was not in the boat. “They hurried over to the commotion and realized it was their child. They started life saving efforts immediately. This is a very tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the entire family and friends.”

A TLPD news release distributed Monday said Varney’s death was investigated by officers from the Twin Lakes Police Department along with the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s office, but did not offer additional information about what happened or cause of death.
