Mosquito spraying gets top response in Paddock Lake survey

If there’s one thing residents of Paddock Lake want to see the village continue to do it is spray for mosquitoes.

That service was addressed in two sections of the village’s recent resident survey. Both received the highest positive responses in the whole survey.

To a question seeking to identify important things, mosquito spraying received 84 percent of responders ranking it as very important or important.

In a section asking yes or no for several items, a question asking whether the village should continue to spray weekly for mosquitoes received an 89 percent yes response.

“The majority has spoken,” said village administrator Tim Popanda. “They like the mosquito spraying.”

The survey was distributed to village households earlier this year. The village mailed out 1,490 surveys with 344 returned for a 23 percent response rate.

Village officials at last week’s committee of the whole meeting generally seemed satisfied the responses mean residents are happy with village services.

“All in all, I would say it’s a very good report card,” village President Terry Burns said.

The village has been surveying residents every five years, something that makes Paddock Lake more proactive than many municipalities, Popanda said.

“I find that very progressive on your part as a Village Board,” Popanda told the board.

Some other answers from the yes or no section were:

  • Should the village continue to license golf carts for operaion on village roads: Yes 78 percent, no 22 percent.
  • Presently the village does not contribute to the 4th of July fireworks display. Moving forward should the Village
contribute tax money to the civic organization that hosts the fireworks display? Yes 45 percent, no 55 percent.
  • Should the village board contribute a portion of unused/surplus budget dollars to local food pantries? Yes 64 percent, no 36 percent.
  • Should the village develop or implement an Adult/Senior recreation program? Yes 66 percent, no 34 percent.
  • Should the village increase proceeds to support the Community Library? Yes 53 percent, no 47 percent.
