Units responding to Trevor-Wilmot School for investigation

At about 8:37 a.m., Salem Lakes Fire/Rescue units are responding to a Trevor-Wilmot School for an investigation.

Per dispatch: A gas smell has been detected outside the school kitchen. The school is evacuating.

UPDATE 8:43 a.m. — Utility company to respond.

UPDATE 9:06 a.m. — Salem command reports to dispatch that there may have been a release of gas. People are re-entering the school, but staying to one side of the building.

UPDATE 9:27 a.m. — Nicole Massie, Trevor-Wilmot director of business services, said the fire department has cleared the entire building for use. The odor was initially detected by a staff member and the school evacuated as a “necessary precaution.” The school’s bus provider Dousman Transport was contacted and quickly sent buses for students and staff to wait in, but the building was cleared before the buses could be loaded, Massie said.
