Wheatland Center School gives referendum presentation to Wheatland Town Board

Wheatland J1 School District administrator Marty McGinley gave a presentation Monday to the Wheatland Town Board concerning the April 3 school referendum questions at the board’s regular monthly meeting.

Voters in the school district — most of which lies in Wheatland, but also has parts in Randall, Salem Lakes and Brighton — will have two referendum questions on the April 3 ballot:

  • An operational referendum that asks to exceed the revenue limit by $625,000 for four years on a non-reoccuring basis. This would amount to an extension of authority granted by voters via referendum in 2014. Consequently, district officials point out it will not increase taxes from the current level. This referendum is needed to maintain current programming at the school, McGinley said.
  • A capital referendum authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $8.45 million for capital projects. Among those projects are updates and replacements for mechanical systems, additional classrooms and updated security. Approval of this question would increase taxes by an estimated 48 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.

Here is video of McGinley’s presentation to the board in which he goes into a lot more details about what is involved with both questions:
