The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for an area of Wisconsin that includes Kenosha County.
Multiple rounds of heavy rain Monday and Tuesday is what has forecasters concerned. From the watch statement:
We have an existing icy snowpack with high moisture content and the ground is still deeply frozen. One to 2 inches of rain falling on these surface conditions is an ideal setup for efficient and rapid runoff. This could cause smaller rivers and streams to reach flood stage.”
The watch is scheduled for 9 p.m., Monday through 6 a.m. Thursday. However, the forecast for the For River at the New Munster gauge does not show a crest of 12.8 inches until noon Thursday.
The latest local NWS forecast calls for rainfall of .25-2.25 inches of rain from Monday through Tuesday night.
Temperatures will be warm Monday and Tuesday with highs of 44 and 54 respectively. After that, temperatures are expected to slip back into the 30s.
