Seven Wheatland Center School students received awards and recognition in the Southeast Wisconsin Scholastic Writing Region of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for 2018.

The following eighth grade students will be honored at an awards ceremony in April at UW-Parkside’s Rita Tallent Center for Arts and Humanities:

  • Carly Lois – Short Story – “Tough Job”: Silver Key.
  • James Tsakonas – Flash Fiction – “Abnormally Normal”: Silver Key.
  • Peyton Williamson – Short Story – “Ellie and the Money”: Silver Key.
  • Valerie Zuehls – Short Story – “The Final Act”: Silver Key.
  • Austin Butterfield – Short Story – “Goliath”: Honorable Mention.
  • Ethan Mahaffee – Short Story – “The Last Day of My Normal Life”: Honorable Mention.
  • Marie Nickolette – Humor – “Rodney and the Butcher Shop”: Honorable Mention.

The Southeast Wisconsin Scholastic Writing Awards are open to students in grades 7-12 from Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth counties. Students entries are judged blindly by at least three jurors. There are three levels of recognition in the regional awards: the Gold Key, followed by Silver Key and Honorable Mention awards. Entries receiving Gold Keys advance to New York for national judging by professional writers, editors, publishers, and educators, while Gold Key and Silver Key works are included in a published collection of regional award-winning work.
