Free income tax assistance available

Free income tax assistance is available in Kenosha County for low to moderate income families.

IRS certified volunteers are ready to assist taxpayers to complete and e-file their tax returns for free for households earning up to $54,000.

The Kenosha County VITA Coalition is working in partnership with United Way of Kenosha County, Carthage College, Kenosha County Job Center, Gateway Technical College, UW-Parkside and other community organizations.

Tax assistance is offered at multiple locations in Kenosha County:

  • Twin Lakes Community Library – 110 S. Lake Ave., Twin Lakes, Feb. 1-22, Thursday evenings by appointment. Call 262-960-9178.
  • Salem Community Library – 24615 89th St., Salem, March 1-29, Thursday evenings, 4 to 7:30 p.m. by appointment. Call 262-960-9178.
  • Kenosha County Job Center – 8600 Sheridan Road, entrance D, Feb. 3– April 10, Saturday mornings, 8 a.m. to noon and Tuesday evenings, 5 to 9 p.m. First come, first served, up to one hour before closing.
  • TruStone Credit Union – 6715 Green Bay Road, Kenosha, March 1-March 29. Thursday mornings by appointment. Call 262-960-9178
  • Kenosha Public Library – 1500 27th Ave., Kenosha, Feb 1-22, Tuesday mornings by appointment. Call 262-960-9178.

Please be sure to bring the following items in order to
file your return: Social Security Card or ITIN; photo ID’s; all income information such as w-2, 1099, unemployment, pension or Social Security; bank routing information. For more information of what is needed to bring to the VITA site, please visit www.kenoshaunitedway.org/vita or call United Way of Kenosha County at 262-658- 4104.

The Kenosha County VITA coalition provides free income tax preparation services for low-to moderate income individuals and families earning $54,000 or under. Financial education resources will be available at each of the tax sites.
