Lakewood School students place in “Ability…Not Disability” art contest

Last fall, kindergarten through 12th grade students from Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, Rock, and Jefferson counties were invited to participate in a drawing contest sponsored by the organization Society’s Assets. The contest typically receives over 500 entries. The contest involved drawing an original picture that embodies and incorporates the slogan “Ability…Not Disability”. The contest is intended to promote disability awareness and understanding.

In early January the results were announced and Lakewood School received news that three¬†students placed competitively in the 3rd through 5th grade age category. Grace Olson (5th grade), Isabelle Salbreiter (5th grade), and Scarlette Fallscher (5th grade) respectively placed third, second, and first, and won a combined total of $175 in prizes and will have their artwork displayed in the headquarters of the organization. They also received a congratulatory letter from the Community Outreach Coordinator of Society’s Assets, as well as a ribbon denoting their achievements. Their work is also expected to be featured in promotional materials of the agency, such as calendars, note cards, etc.
