Power outage in Silver Lake; transformer fire in Wheatland

At about 6:40 p.m., We Energies is reporting a power outage centered in Silver Lake.

Preliminary info on the utility’s outage map says there are two outages affecting less than five customers each, but based on social media response, it may be more widespread than that.

UPDATE 6:43 p.m. — Kenosha County Scanner Facebook page is reporting that Town of Wheatland Fire Department and Silver Lake Rescue Squad units are responding to a report of a transformer fire on Highway K and the Canadian National Railroad tracks. This might be the cause of the power outage.

UPDATE 7 p.m. — We Energies now reporting 118 customers affected by outage.

UPDATE 7:25 p.m. —¬†We Energies now reporting 478 customers affected by outage.

UPDATE 8:14 p.m. — All Wheatland FD units clearing the scene of transformer fire.

UPDATE about 8:24 p.m. — Deputy reports over radio that power restored in Silver Lake.
