Paddock Lake donates German sign to Old Settlers Oktoberfest

Paddock Lake has donated a German welcome sign to Old Settlers Oktoberfest, the annual German festival held at Old Settlers County Park in Paddock Lake.

The sign was donated to the village by Paddock Lake resident Shannon Berkman. Berkman found the sign in her Paddock Lake home after she purchased it, left by the former owner.

In turn, village President Terry Burns recently donated the sign to Old Settlers Oktoberfest, the annual German-themed festival held at Old Settlers County Park in Paddock Lake. 2017 was the festival’s seventh year. Proceeds of the event are currently going toward building a band shell in the park.

Rebecca Lancour, of Westosha Floral and one of the festival’s founders, said Oktoberfest has been acquiring more German decor items in recent years and the sign will be framed and then added to the collection to be displayed at the festival.

“I just love that it’s part of this town,” Lancour said.

Though the village also has been collecting historical local artifacts for years, Burns thought it more appropriate to donate the sign to Oktoberfest.

“An event like that really puts Paddock Lake on the map,” Burns said, “and we have to embrace that.”

Darren, just to clarify the full intent on the sign was to go to the Oktoberfest Committee, I just acted as the catalyst.
