July 13, 2017: Highway 50 closure continues

On July 13, 2017 at about 7 p.m.

The closure of Highway 50 is still active as of about 7 p.m., Friday.

By the looks of the water across the roadway, a change in that status does not seem imminent. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation anticipates the closure continuing through the weekend.

Of course it all depends on the Fox River. The river, as measured at the New Munster gauge, did seem to crest at 17.47 feet at 4 p.m. Thursday. By 5 p.m., it was lower, at 17.34 feet, but by 7 p.m. it had inched up a little to 17.43.

The good news is there’s not a substantial chance of rain in the forecast through Monday night, except for Saturday evening with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms.
