Road closures expected in Shorewood Drive/Riverside Drive area

Ongoing road closures in the Shorewood Drive/Riverside Drive of Salem Lakes and Silver Lake are expected as the Fox River is projected to continue to rise, a Salem Lakes official said Wednesday evening.

Mike Murdock, Highway Department supervisor, speaking at the end of a special Village Board meeting on Wednesday, said he expects the closures to occur even with as little as inch of water on the streets. That’s because a car running through that seemingly small amount of water at 30 mph can cause water to back splash into adjacent homes.

As someone who lives on Shorewood drive, I can tell you this. They need to have some sort of signs on highway 50 alerting those who are not from the area that this is only a residential neighborhood, and that you will not be able to get through. We have a ton of cars speeding by who are not from the area because they’re to detour because of highway 50 being closed. We can only give directions to so many people. They’re literally freaking out!
