Olivia Rickert’s favorite teacher at Bristol School is Amy Wagner.

Rickert told the world this so well that her essay was selected as the local winner of a My Favorite Teacher contest sponsored by a national book store chain.

Wagner and Rickert were honored at a ceremony at the Barnes & Noble store in Racine Saturday morning.

Each were presented with a certificate marking the occasion by Bristol principal Jeff Terry.

“I think it’s great when staff and administration have a chance to thank teachers for their efforts,” Terry said “but I think it’s really special when you have a student have an opportunity to say what impact a teacher has on them.”

Wagner was visibly moved by Olivia’s essay, dabbing tears from her eyes now and then.

“This took me completely by surprise and it was one of the most humbling experiences of my life,” Wagner said.

Olivia read her essay to those in attendance, citing Wagner’s influence on her and her classmates in the classroom and through extracurriculars.

“All things considered, Mrs. Wagner is a really great teacher and she helps us in more ways than one,” Olivia’s essay concluded.
