The Wheatland J1 School District (Wheatland Center School) is seeking a resident to fill a vacancy on the school board after the resignation of a board member.
Mary Ochoa-Petersen announced her resignation as a member of the board of education and it was accepted at the March 23 board meeting. She had been a member of the board for eight years.
Ochoa-Petersen did not specify a reason for the resignation other than to say it was time, said district administrator Martin McGinley.
“We would like to thank her for her years of service to the Wheatland J1 School District and the Wheatland community,” an announcement of the vacancy issued by the district Wednesday said.
The board is seeking interested candidates that would represent the Wheatland area to serve a one-year term on the school board. The vacant seat would fill the term through April 2018. After the year, the incumbent selected would have the opportunity to run to fill a three-year term.
Citizens who live in the Wheatland District and may be interested in filling the board seat are asked to submit a letter of interest to the name and address below by no later than Monday, April 24 . Candidates who file a letter of interest will be contacted by the district. The board will interview candidates and make a selection following those interviews.
Letters of interest should be to: Mrs. Carolyn Spangler – District Secretary, Wheatland Jt 1 School Board of Education, 6606 368th Avenue, Burlington, WI 53105 or email: carolyn.spangler@wcspk8.org
