Kenosha County Tavern League makes donations for new Sheriff’s Dept. K9 and other organizations

Their 13th annual fishing derby was canceled due to ice conditions, but the Kenosha County Tavern League Ice Fishing Party went on Saturday, Feb. 25. Saturday morning, Tavern League officials presented checks to several organizations.

The Kenosha County Tavern League made a $10,000 contribution the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department K9 fund. That covers two thirds of the cost to purchase and begin training a dog. Sheriff David Beth was elated to receive such a sum.

“This is mind-boggling to me, that they made this donation,” Beth said.

This money has allowed the Sheriff’s Department to go ahead with the process for their next K9. The Sheriff’s Department has already reserved a training spot for March. Deputy John Lanctot will receive this dog; he was the same deputy who had Klaus, which the department lost last November after five years of service. The department hopes it should save some training since Lanctot is already trained as a K9 handler. Training a dog for search and drugs takes about four to five months, plus ongoing training.

Other groups who received donations were:

Never Say Never Playground $5,000

Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 20 $2,500

American Legion Auxiliary Post 293 $2,500

The fishing derby and party is the KCTL largest fundraiser of the year. The money they raise, they give away.
