There will be contests for school board seats in Silver Lake Joint School District 1 (Riverview School), Trevor-Wilmot School District and Twin Lakes School District No. 4 (Lakewood School) in the April election.
Other local school districts have no contests for their seats. Filing for candidacy closed Jan. 3.
Here’s a rundown by district.
Riveriew School-Joint School District #1, Silver Lake-Salem — There’s so much interest in running for school board here that not only is there a contest but there will have to be a primary on Feb. 21 to pare down candidates for the April ballot. Two seats are to be filled. Candidates who filed are: Incumbents Bert A. Christensen and Mary K. Vozel and challengers Dee Dee Adamecz, Joy Corona and Adam Lang. The primary will eliminate one candidate.
Lakewood School-Twin Lakes School District No. 4 — There are three candidates for two seats: Incumbent Rhett Suhre and challengers Steven Turner and Scott Whipple.
Trevor-Wilmot School — There are two seats and three candidates: incumbent Bill Barhyte and challengers Matthew Goze and Michael Murdock. Incumbent Tom Steiner is not running for re-election.
Salem School — There is one seat available and only incumbent Dana Powers filed for candidacy.
Brighton School — There are two seats open with only the incumbent filing candidacy for each: School Board President Paul Craven and School Board Clerk Judy Uhlenhake.
Wheatland Center School — There are two seats open and two people have filed candidacy: Incumbent Troy Bruley and Rachael Crane. Longtime board member Tim Driscoll is not running for re-election.
Randall School — There are two seats open with only the incumbents, Jim O’Connell and Tracy Strother, filing candidacy.
Bristol School — There is one seat open with only incumbent Kathy LeFebve filing candidacy.
Paris School — There is one seat open with incumbent Curt Nikula the only person who filed candidacy.
Central High School-District of Westosha — There is one candidiate each for the area seats that are open: Paris, Dustin Beth and Salem, Karen Shoopman.
Wilmot Union High School — There are three seats open with only the incumbents, Sam Barranco, Barbara Wetherbee and Barbara Tietz, filing candidacy.
