Silver Lake Village board accepts Trustee Dan Withers resignation

The Silver Lake Village Board Wednesday unanimously accepted the resignation of Trustee Dan Withers.

In a letter of resignation read by village President Bruce Nopenz, Withers said he has accepted an out of state job that he feels will not allow him to fulfill his duties as a trustee, though he is remaining a resident of the village. Withers’s letter said he was honored to have served village residents.

Withers was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in 2015 and then was re-elected in April. His term ends in 2018.

Nopenz said no one came to mind immediately as a candidate to replace Withers. Trustee Laura Francart suggested the board accept letters of interest from residents willing to fill out the term.

The board took no formal action on replacing Withers.

How to fill the seat could have implications for the make-up of the Salem Lakes Village Board after Silver Lake and Salem merge in February. Withers’ seat was not one of the four village board positions set to be decided in the April 2017 election.
