Richard Bong State Recreation Area announces the following November and December programs.
Saturday, November 5 — Crane Watch — Drop in to visit Tom Lajiness and to watch for cranes as they come to roost for the evening at the lake. Meet at Shelter #4, at the Beach. 6-7pm.
Thursday, November 10 — Knee-high Naturalist — Bring your 3-5 year old to this fun and involving nature program. This month meet some DEAR DEER. Be prepared to go outside. Please call to register or to cancel (262) 878-5601. Meet at the Visitor Center. 10-11:30am.
Saturday, November 12 — Up-cycled Silverware — Make beautiful wall hooks or candle holders using rustic boards and transformed silverware. Please pre-register by calling (262) 878-5601. Fee is $15. Meet at the Visitor Center but be prepared to drive. 3-4:30pm.
Coyote Neighbors. Discover how perfectly adapted coyotes are to survive. Learn some tips for living near them then we’ll go out to try to call our coyote neighbors. Meet at the Visitor Center. 7-8pm.
Saturday, November 19 — Willow Basket Class — Learn to make a beautiful basket out of native willow that you cut yourself. Bring waterproof boots if you have them. Please call (262) 878-5601 to pre-register. Fee is $20. Meet at the Visitor Center. 10am-1pm.
Saturday, December 3 — Holiday Greenery — Put some “green” in your holidays as you learn to create beautiful evergreen sprays or swags using natural materials. All materials provided. Please pre-register by calling (262) 878-5601. Fee is $15. Meet at the Visitor Center but be prepared to drive. 8:30-10am OR 10:30am-12pm.
Wednesday, December 21 — Celebrate the Solstice — Enjoy a natural celebration at this busy time of year. Learn how
others have celebrated the return of the sun then hike and do some of your own celebrating. Dress to be outside. Meet at the Amphitheater. 6:30-7:30pm.
