Mountain bike Halloween Night Ride and Costume Party at Silver Lake

The 1st Annual Halloween Night Ride and Costume Party will take place at Silver Lake County Park in Salem on Oct. 28.

The fun “spirited” social ride on the park’s single track and double track trails will be followed by roaring fireplaces, chili, a pock luck meal, and beverages at the lakefront pavilion at Silver Lake County Park.

“This is one more opportunity for area residents to experience and learn about the new mountain bike trails while participating in some Halloween FUN with other riders and trail supporters” said Amy Andrews, with the SEWTA mountain bike group. SEWTA stands for Southeast Wisconsin Trails Alliance, which recently became one of the newest Wisconsin clubs within IMBA – the International Mountain Bike Association.

In Partnership with Kenosha County Parks, SEWTA’s volunteer trail builders have built and maintain approximately 10 miles of trails in Silver Lake County Park. The trails are primarily designed for intermediate riders, but note that a beginners/kid-friendly loop exists along with some sections with challenging climbs and descents for more advanced riders. Silver Lake County Park’s proximity to major population centers has drawn bikers from both the local area and as far away as Chicago and Milwaukee.

Southeast Wisconsin has become an activity hub for mountain bikers with over a half dozen trail systems and numerous events to choose from in a five county area. The Halloween event is one of several seasonal bike events planned for Silver Lake Park.  The Team Snowbike Enduro planned for February and a Wisconsin Endurance Mountain Bike Series event is also being planned for 2017.

The gathering and the bike ride starts at 6 p.m. on Friday night, followed by food, beverages, and socializing by the fireplace at the lakefront pavilion. Activities conclude at 10pm. Donations are welcome.
