The Salem Town Board on Monday extended for five years an agreement with the Western Kenosha County Historical Society that allows that group to use a town park as its headquarters.

The society has two historical buildings in Miller Park on 260th Avenue in Trevor.

There was some discussion about the term of the agreement before the approval. Supervisor Dennis Faber said he felt five years was too long. In his opinion, the society is too centered on Trevor and should be more inclusive of other areas of Western Kenosha County, he added.

“I am not real pleased with the direction the historical society is going in now,” Faber said. “My question has always been where are the other communities that are west of the I?”

The other board members seemed OK with the term, but Supervisor Dan Campion suggested more frequent updates from the society would be useful. A provision for at least an annual report from the society to the Town Board was included in the motion extending the agreement.

The vote to approve the extension was unanimous.
