UPDATE: Man injured trying to rescue cats from house fire in Twin Lakes

The Twin Lakes Police department issued the following media release regarding a fire in the village Wednesday afternoon:

On Wednesday (Note: Day corrected from original release. — DH), August 24, 2016 at approximately 12:17 pm. Twin Lakes Police were dispatched to 1714 Sunset Dr, Twin Lakes, WI for a residential structure fire. The house was fully engulfed when Officers arrived. The residence was evacuated prior to the arrival of the officers. During the preliminary investigation, the elderly couple that reside there had arrived home and discovered their residence was on fire. There were 2 cats, which one later escaped and the other was later discovered deceased. One 80 yr. old male was later treated for minor burns trying to assist with saving the cats. The cause of this fire is under investigation by the Twin Lakes Police Department with assistance from the Kenosha Country Fire task force. During this incident, the Twin Lakes Fire / EMS, Randall Fire, Wheatland Fire, Bloomfield Genoa City fire, and Richmond, IL. Fire / EMS was summoned and staged in the area and other fire departments from the Northern IL area responded as well.”

Capt. Dennis Linn, TLPD, said the home was a total loss.

While an investigation into the cause is ongoing, the fire is believed to be accidental, Linn added.

    What can we do as a community to help this couple? Their home
    home was a total loss. Can we get a place to send donations?
    Anybody want to help? Feeling terrible for this couple.
