Aquanut Water Show Team takes fourth at Nationals

The Aquanut Water Show Team, of Twin Lakes, won fourth place at the 42nd Indmar Marine Engines Division 1 Show Ski Nationals, Sunday, Aug. 14 in Janesville.

The award ceremony followed three days of competition involving 14 teams from around the nation, on the Rock River, in Janesville, crowned a new National Champion Show Ski team. The top four teams were within 155 points of each other. The Aquanuts scored 1802 points. First place was Wonder Lake, second; Mad City Ski team, and the Rock Aqua Jays of Janesville narrowly edged out the Aquanuts.

The 2016 Aquanuts performed “Ski or Sink”, a family oriented show containing various ski acts and comedy and skits. The show poked fun at the television game shows and their quest for better ratings, with announcers Andy Amore and Mark Gurda.

The Aquanuts performed a 5 High Human Pyramid, an Aquanut first, and was presented the “Teamwork” award. The pyramid was topped by 9-year old, Greta Rzonca of Twin Lakes, supported by Joy Heeter of Burlington, also 9 years old, and Brynn Cahill of Lisle, IL, 13 years old. The pyramid consisted of 11 men and 9 other woman Aquanut team members.

The Aquanuts won the best barefoot act with “Barefoot Tornados” performed by Kailey Koehler of Lake Geneva), the 2016 National Barefoot champion, who skied 4 complete circles around the show course.

The Aquanut Ladies’ Ballet narrowly missed retaining their National championship performance for the sixth consecutive year.

Aquanut swivel star, Kaila Coffey of Medinah, IL, competed and placed 4th in the nation at the individual swivel completion, held on Friday. Aquanut swivel star and 2014 National Swivel champion and Willa Cook award winner, Kendall Krieger of Lake Bluff, IL also anchored the ladies’ swivel act along with Coffey.

Other incredible highlights were individual performances by trick skiers and wake boarders, Ethan Shulda of Twin Lakes, Jarrett Breber of Elkhorn, Aaron Nelson of Burlington and Brandon Kirchens of Wheeling. Aquanut Barefooter Ariana Koehler of Lake Geneva, ranked #2 Nationally, also performed in barefooting.

The Aquanuts have shows Wednesdays and Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day in Lance Park, 55 Lance Drive, Twin Lakes.
