Central’s Sydney Rau finishes 6th at state in pole vault and other local girls track results

Central High School’s Sydney Rau finished sixth in Division 1 pole vault at the WIAA state meet Friday in LaCrosse.

Rau’s best vault was 11 feet 6 inches, good enough for a personal and school record. That was 12 inches better than her personal record and three inches higher than the previous school record.

Sixth is a podium finish at the state meet.

Also competing in field events at the state meet for the Central girls team was Amanda Sabourin, who finished 20th in discus.

Maddie Martin, of Wilmot Union High School ran a 58.14 in the 400 meter dash preliminaries Friday, qualifying 10th for the finals Saturday.

The Wilmot 4×400 relay team of Rebecca Alter, Julia Shurtleff, Rachel Kostrova and Martin posted a time of 4:02.89, finishing 12 and outside of the finals.

UPDATE — Martin also finished 10th in the finals on Saturday.
