On Thursday evening, May 5, 2016, at approximately 1700 hours (5 p.m.), the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of CTH KR at US Route 45 in Kenosha County, WI. Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene along with Fire and Rescue units from Paris Township and Union Grove. A Flight For Life helicopter also responded. The investigation revealed that a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, being operated westbound on CTH KR, had failed to stop for the stop sign at US 45. The Jetta was struck by a Buick Rainier which had been northbound on US 45, with no stop sign. (Two-way stop only). Steve J. Savas, an 83-year old man, of Union Grove, WI, was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the 2008 VW Jetta. Savas was entrapped in his vehicle for a period of time and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office. The operator and sole occupant of the Buick Rainier was identified as a 31-year old woman named Jodi A. Belanger, also of Union Grove, WI. Belanger suffered significant injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Froedtert Hospital by Flight For Life. No evidence of OMVWI was detected. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Steve was a great man who gave so much to the Paris community, and his Star Bar patrons. He will be missed by all, but at last is reunited with his Susan.
