Illinois man dies in crash on I-94

A Northfield, Ill. man died after his vehicle was found striking a wall on I-94 Saturday morning.

The man was identified as Brian P. Carney, 52, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department said in a media release.

From the media release:

On Saturday morning, April 23rd, 2016, at approximately 0542 hours, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to I-94, north bound lanes, in the 7400 block for a report of a driver who was continually striking the wall northbound. The pickup truck driver was reportedly slumped over the wheel and the vehicle continued striking the outside wall. Two semi-trucks were following behind the pickup keeping other traffic out of the way. When the speed of the pickup began to slow one of the semi drivers, Rafal Jedlewski, exited and attempted to open the driver’s door of the pickup. Jedlewski pulled the door handle off the driver’s door but was able to get the door open and stopped the pickup by pressing the brake. Once the vehicle was in park the semi-drivers removed the pick-up driver, who was identified as Brian P. Carney M/W, 52 years old, of Northfield, IL. Carney was found to be not conscious or breathing. They began CPR until rescue responded and transported Carney to an area Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. It appears that Carney may have had a medical event while driving. … The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
