Government officials, Brookside administration, staff, and residents gathered for a program and groundbreaking for an addition to the Brookside Care Center in Kenosha on April 13 . The $20 million expansion of the Kenosha County operated facility will be built without adding to the tax bill, officials say. The addition will be a 48-bed, 2-story building for short-term rehabilitation, and a 24-bed community based residential facility.
Some Brookside history:
- 1916 Willowbrook Sanatorium. The main purpose was to treat and fight TB. 46 beds
- 1938 a new building opened because they had outgrown the first one. 71 beds, staff of 20
- 1957 Brookside opened. 246 beds 150 staff.
- 1969 the TB sanatorium closed.
- 1989 Willowbrook for the Developmentally Disabled certified.
- 1995 the new Brookside opened. 154 single occupancy rooms on a single floor.
- 2016 addition will be a 48 bed, 2 story building for short-term rehabilitation, and a 24 bed community based residential facility.
