Seven deputies and one correctional officer from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department were recognized Friday for actions that helped people facing major medical emergencies.
A ceremony for the recognition was held at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol.
Deputy John Wilke was awarded a Silver Star for pulling a person out of a burning vehicle in June 2014. Wilke had been attempting to stop the driver when he fled and eventually crashed his vehicle. Deputy Michael J. Pittsley and Deputy Anthony Schmit were also recognized for their help in trying to put out the vehicle’s fire and carrying the driver a safe distance from the wreck. Wilke is the first person in the KCSD to receive two Silver Stars. Click here for video of the Silver Star presentation.
Deputies Joseph Zarletti and Timothy Thornton were recognized for helping to save the life of a heart attack victim. Click here for video of their presentation by Sheriff David Beth and Dr. Ben Feinzimer, associate director of emergency medicine, St. Catherine’s Hospital.
Deputy Shawn Beckstrom and Deputy Schmit were recognized for saving the life of a person attempting suicide. Click here for video of their presentation.
