If you are a frequent user of the Highway NN/Highway 12 interchange in Walworth County, then you may be interested in this announcement from the Wisconsin Department of Transporation:
On Monday, September 14, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is scheduled to start a reconstruction project on the US 12/County NN Interchange in Walworth County. The contractor, Michels Corp., is planning on completing the $14 Million project in late fall of 2016. Built in 1968, the interchange has deteriorated and is in need of safety improvements to meet modern standards. Improvements include: Replacing the County NN bridges over US 12; reconstructing all interchange ramps; adding on-road bike accommodations at side road intersections and ramp terminals; adding off-road shared use path on the north side of County NN. The project involves raising the profile of County NN to increase the vertical clearance between the bridge and US 12. This will lead to increased sight distance and reduce the potential for crashes. An additional safety improvement is the addition of a high friction surface treatment on US 12 over MacLean Road, roughly a mile south of the interchange. The 2015 work is in preparation for operations next year. Crews will install temporary pavement to widen the lanes in order to accommodate next year’s traffic switch. Construction work will be shut down over the winter months of 2015 and 2016. In 2016, there will be long term closures of the interchange ramps, while two lanes of traffic on US 12 will be maintained in each direction. The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.
