Drivers advised to avoid Highway 83 Monday due to slain officer’s funeral

The Salem Public Safety Department is advising drivers to work around using Highway 83 Monday due to expected heavy traffic relating to the funeral of a Fox Lake Police officer killed while on duty last week.

Antioch is hosting the funeral service at Antioch High School on Highway 83 at Highway 173 and therefore traffic will be greatly affected on Highway 83 South into Antioch. Traffic unrelated to the officers’ funeral services should find alternative routes from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to avoid substantial back up traffic, advised David Shortess, Salem director of Public Safety.

Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, a 32-year veteran of the FLPD, was killed while investing suspicious behavior in Fox Lake Tuesday. Authorities continue to search for the two white males and one black male  Gliniewicz told dispatch he was pursing before communication with him was lost.
