Extra presence of uniformed of deputies at Western Kenosha County schools this morning was part of the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department’s reaction to the continued search for the three men accused of killing Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz early Tuesday in Fox Lake, said Sgt. Dan Ruth, KCSD public information officer.
All local schools remained open Wednesday.
Other efforts in reaction to the continuing search included overnight extra patrol in Western Kenosha County by KCSD SWAT team members who, along with regular patrol deputies, responded to several suspicious calls along the Illinois-Wisconsin/Lake County-Kenosha County border Tuesday night.
“Although no formal request was made to Sheriff (David) Beth for assistance in the search for the offenders, proactive measures were taken and continue to be in place in Kenosha County by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department,” Ruth said in a media release issued at 4 p.m.
Here is the whole media release:
Sheriff David Beth has conveyed his deep sadness and condolences on behalf of the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department to the Fox Lake, IL Police Department regarding the death of Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz. The community of Fox Lake, IL shares a border with Kenosha County, WI and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction. Our thoughts are with our “neighbors” and the members of the Fox Lake Police Dept. and Community at this very difficult time. Sheriff Beth reached out to the command center in Fox Lake, early on yesterday, sending a Kenosha County Sheriff’s Patrol Supervisor directly to the scene in Illinois to offer any assistance needed. Although no formal request was made to Sheriff Beth for assistance in the search for the offenders, proactive measures were taken and continue to be in place in Kenosha County by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Tactical Response Team (SWAT) and specialized vehicles patrolled Western Kenosha County during the overnight hours in conjunction with normal uniformed patrol units and responded to several suspicious calls along the southern border of Kenosha County. Sheriff Beth has increased the number of uniformed patrol units and has been in contact with the schools on the west end of Kenosha County. The Tactical Response Team (SWAT) has been placed on alert status should the need for assistance or response arise. Sheriff Beth would like to remind all Kenosha County Residents to immediately report any suspicious incidents to law enforcement and remain diligent as the search for the offenders continues.
Gliniewicz was investigating suspicious behavior in Fox Lake Tuesday morning when he gave chase on foot to three suspects, identified by him in his transmission to dispatch as two white males and one black male. A responding back-up officer found Gliniewicz down at the scene, where he died.
Lake County and federal law enforcement continued the search for the suspects Wednesday.
I am so glad to hear that Sheriff Beth is being proactive. Him and his deputies are the best!!
I agree that the Sheriff Dept is the best. They took over policing in Silver Lake and most all people are very happy about it. Great job KSD.
