All beaches on Paddock Lake are again open for swimming Tuesday after results from tests taken Monday showed safe E.coli levels.
The latest reading at the last closed beach, the Paddock Hooker Lake Association beach on the south side of the lake, was 17 E.coli/100 mL. A reading of 300 E.coli/100 mL prompts a swimming advisory and a reading of 1,000 E.coli/100 mL or more produces a closure until a safe level reading is achieved.
Last Wednesday, two beaches on Paddock Lake’s south side, the PHLA beach and the beach at Old Settlers County Park, were closed for high E.coli readings. Old Settlers had a safe test and was reopened Thursday, but the PHLA beach remained closed until Tuesday.
Village administrator Tim Popanda attributed the high readings to high temperatures and the presence of geese and seagulls. He attributed the lower readings to subsequent cooler temperatures and heavy winds.
