Randall School fifth graders in Lorrie Byers’ class built hovercrafts as a culminating activity for their science unit. Students have been learning about the Newton’s Laws of Motion and applying these principals in hands-on activities.
Students constructed the hovercraft from recycled CD disks, rubber tubing and a balloon. They were asked to experiment and engineer the best model. Each team was able to make modifications in their model along the way, testing them using the scientific method.
