Mary Sue Lux, DVM, and other staff of Westosha Veterinary Hospital place the SIlver Lake Fire Department’s new oxygen mask over a dog while SLFD Lt. Allen Dunski observes.
The Silver Lake Fire Department now has a new tool to help pets that it rescues from burning buildings.
Representatives of the department on Monday accepted a donation of a pet oxygen mask from Invisible Fence Brand and Westosha Veterinary Hospital in Silver Lake.
Steve Burbick of Invisible Fence said the company annually makes such donations in conjunction with local veterinary practices witht eh goal of equiping all fire departmetns with the equipment.
SLFD Lt. Allen Dunski said in the past when the department had a pet rescued from a fire that appeared to be having trouble breathing the best that could be done is getting a mask intended for humans near the pets nose. This new mask will allow the muzzle of a pet to be put right in the mask.
“We think it’s about time we had something like this on the engine,” Dunski said. “Hopefully, it will make a difference with somebody’s pet.”
Great things are happening in Silver Lake. This is a job well done by Lt Dunski, SLFD and the Westosha Vet. All life is worth saving and these folks have proven their commitment to the village.
A big thank you to Westosha Vet and Silver Lake Fire for helping to protect our pets. A very worthy effort, that hopefully NEVER will have to be used! Will they be able to administer Nitrous Oxide to the overcome pets if needed?
