Possible severe weather

From the National Weather Service.

Morning Severe Thunderstorms Possible,

Small Chance for Afternoon Severe Thunderstorms

Morning Threat:

Strong Winds
Large Hail

Late afternoon/Evening Threat:

Strong Winds
Large Hail
Tornado

An ongoing thunderstorm complex that developed in the Dakotas overnight will race quickly across southern Minnesota and southern Wisconsin later this morning through early afternoon. This bowing line of thunderstorms is expected to cross southern Wisconsin from 9 am to 11 am. Gusty winds of 40 to 60 mph will be possible along the leading edge of this line. There is a small chance of large hail with this round of thunderstorms as well.

There may be a second round of thunderstorms that develop later in the afternoon as a cold front sweeps through southern Wisconsin. Some concerns: if the morning round is strong enough or if light rain lingers into the early afternoon, it may be the only thunderstorm event today, with the cold front then moving through rather silently until it gets south of Wisconsin. If the morning round dissipates quickly, then the afternoon chances increase with the storms initiating quicker along the cold front. It’s a complicated scenario.
